If you\u2019ve never done it, imagine salsa\u2026 but with a whole circle of people, constantly rotating partners, moving as one organism, barely catching your breath before you\u2019re spun into the next hold.<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" class=\"email-image\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"center\">\n<figure>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/embed.filekitcdn.com\/e\/7tdoXYRhRgw2RVGdhkFWmF\/kMBNsYXB333xxD1v8d6614\" class=\"lazyload\" alt=\"a circle of people dancing salsa, constantly rotating partners\" width=\"478\" height=\"auto\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.filekitcdn.com\/e\/7tdoXYRhRgw2RVGdhkFWmF\/kMBNsYXB333xxD1v8d6614\" alt=\"a circle of people dancing salsa, constantly rotating partners\" width=\"478\" height=\"auto\"><\/noscript><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>It\u2019s joyful chaos.<\/p>\n<p>The first time we saw it, we were like:<br \/>\u200b<strong>Absolutely not.<br \/>\u200b<\/strong>We came here to learn how to salsa, not audition for a Latin dance flash mob.<\/p>\n<p>But we stayed.<br \/>Because the teachers are incredible, the community is sweet and supportive, and there\u2019s something about being in that circle, losing and finding the beat over and over again, that feels like life training disguised as dance class.<\/p>\n<p>Last Sunday, we spent two hours in a workshop learning a different version called<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Rueda Dinamica<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(live footage in the .gif above). It was harder than usual, full of quick transitions and fancy variations, but wow\u2026 it was fun.<\/p>\n<p>And halfway through, I looked at Jeff, both of us beaming and sweaty, and I said:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHoney, we\u2019re experts.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He rolled his eyes.<br \/>\u201cExperts? Really?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later, as we walked out, we passed the Level 1 class. All wide eyes and stiff shoulders, counting<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>1-2-3<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>like their lives depended on it. And I remembered when<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>we<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>were them.<br \/>When even a basic turn felt like a magic trick we\u2019d never master.<br \/>When the advanced classes looked like literal sorcery.<\/p>\n<p>And the joke hit me for real:<\/p>\n<p>No, we\u2019re not experts.<br \/>We might never be.<br \/>But compared to where we started?<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are absolutely, undeniably experts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s the truth I keep relearning:<\/p>\n<p>If I measure myself against everything I\u2019ve yet to become\u2026<br \/>every possibility still ahead\u2026<br \/>every version of me I<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>could<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>grow into\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I just want to jump off a bridge.<\/p>\n<p>But when I look at where I am compared to where I started?<\/p>\n<p>I feel proud.<br \/>Encouraged.<br \/>Motivated.<br \/>Open-hearted.<br \/>Clear.<\/p>\n<p>And that state of love-filled clarity is where magic actually works.<br \/>It\u2019s where growth stops feeling like punishment and starts feeling like a path.<\/p>\n<p>So this is your reminder today:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stop comparing yourself to the person you think you should already be.<br \/>Compare yourself to the person you used to be.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ve made progress you haven\u2019t celebrated.<br \/>You\u2019ve developed strengths you\u2019ve minimized.<br \/>And you\u2019ve been way more courageous than you give yourself credit for.<\/p>\n<p>You used to suck way more than you do now, for real.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re doing so much better than you think.<\/p>\n<p>And your past self would look at you with awe.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be so hard on yourself.<br \/>Look at how far you\u2019ve come.<br \/>Let that be the fuel that carries you into the next version of your life, instead of pressure, perfection, and urgency.
