I got a call last night from a woman who was completely unraveling.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s been casually dating this guy, mostly texting, hanging out on occasion.<\/p>\n

And he called her, but she couldn\u2019t take the call. So then he texted:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHey, can we talk soon? Maybe I can stop by tomorrow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s what caused this poor soul to almost have a panic attack. She couldn\u2019t take a full breath and her hands were shaking. The story she immediately told herself was:<\/p>\n

He\u2019s coming over to break up with me. Obviously.<\/p>\n

Not a question. Not even a maybe.<\/p>\n

No. Straight to emotional apocalypse.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

To her, this was the most reasonable conclusion.<\/p>\n

And I\u2019m sitting there like\u2026 oh my god.<\/p>\n

Because here\u2019s what\u2019s actually happening:\u00a0<\/span>nothing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is no information. There is only a sentence:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cCan we talk?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

And her brain has already turned it into a full catastrophe.<\/p>\n

So now she\u2019s in this unbearable suspense. She can\u2019t sleep, can\u2019t focus, and is seriously considering rearranging her entire life just to get clarity faster.<\/p>\n

Because the waiting is killing her.<\/p>\n

Waiting, when your brain is writing horror scripts, is brutal.<\/p>\n

So I told her something I used to hear all the time that felt kind of dismissive back then, but now I actually think is solid advice:<\/p>\n

Do whatever the fuck you want.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t sleep, call him.<\/p>\n

Ask directly.<\/p>\n

Say, \u201cHey, I realized I told myself a whole story about this and I just want to check, what did you want to talk about?\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s one option.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s another option. And this is the one that actually changes your life.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
